Features: Hospital grading management is a major reform in China's hospital management system, representing a self-improvement of the current hospital management framework and a significant step in deepening healthcare reform. Through the gradual implementation of this management system, it will promote the establishment and refinement of a three-tier medical prevention and health care network and a tiered medical service system. It will also adjust the overall structure of the healthcare system, enhance overall efficiency, and contribute to achieving the goal of "Health for All by the Year 2000." This marks a new phase in the management of hospital work in China. In recent years, hospital grading management has been gradually introduced across the country. The experience of pilot hospitals has demonstrated that to achieve and maintain high standards, hospitals must focus on internal development. The "Three Basics" and "Three Rigors" provide a concise summary of scientific and strict hospital management, reflecting the fundamental principles of medical practice. The clinical "Three Basics" training is not only a basic approach to improving the professional competence of healthcare workers and a crucial element in enhancing medical quality but also a core component of hospital grading management. Currently, China lacks systematic training materials for the "Three Basics." To address this gap, Hunan Medical University has undertaken a meaningful initiative. The university's two affiliated hospitals have, after two years of effort, both become the first Class A Grade III hospitals in Hunan Province. Through their experience in organizing "Three Basics" training, they have accumulated relatively successful practices. They assembled a team of experts and, over the course of more than a year, compiled this series, "Clinical 'Three Basics' Training." The content is comprehensive and systematic, with difficulty levels suitable for various learners, and it is user-friendly, making it a practical reference for "Three Basics" training.
The Department of Medical Administration has long envisioned the need for a standardized textbook to promote "Three Basics" training nationwide, responding to the requests and suggestions of many colleagues. It is timely that Hunan Medical University has already undertaken this task. Leaders from the Department of Medical Administration have reviewed the compilation process and the outline and main content of the book from a management perspective. They recognize that Hunan Medical University is one of China's leading medical institutions and that the book meets the current needs of hospital grading management and evaluation. It can also serve as a guide for in-service training, further education, and "Three Basics" training and assessment for medical students in secondary and higher medical schools.
Following the release of the Ministry of Health's notification on implementing hospital grading management in 1989, this model has been widely promoted in hospitals across all levels nationwide, and clinical "Three Basics" training has gained significant attention. In response, our university organized over 100 experts and, over more than a year, developed this series, "Clinical 'Three Basics' Training (Physician Edition, Nurse Edition, Medical Technology Edition)," published by Hunan Science and Technology Press. The Ministry of Health's Department of Medical Administration placed great importance on this series, reviewed the entire book, and recommended it to hospitals across all levels. Since its publication, the book has been widely welcomed by hospitals nationwide, with 12 reprints and a cumulative distribution of over 360,000 sets. It has been recognized as one of China's best-selling science and technology books and is now regarded as a reference book in hospital grading management among healthcare professionals.
Currently, hospital grading management evaluations have entered their second cycle nationwide. Over time, the medical field has seen significant changes, with new knowledge, technologies, and theories constantly emerging. The question formats for "Three Basics" assessments have also been improved. Therefore, our university has decided to comprehensively revise this series to meet the evolving needs of hospital grading management. In the revision, we have retained all content that aligns with hospital grading management requirements while adding new material. The short-answer section continues to adopt a question-and-answer, statement, and list-explanation format, while the self-assessment section has removed the K-type questions, which have largely fallen out of use in recent years. We have revised, added, and deleted true-or-false and fill-in-the-blank questions, expanded the A-type questions, and introduced B, C, and X-type questions.
