Features: The early form of the Sunflower Series of Judicial Examination Books was the "Outline of the National Lawyer Qualification Examination" co-authored by Professor Fu Ying and Professor Wang Feng. It was internally printed in Beijing from 1997 to 2000 and gained immense popularity among candidates in the capital. Due to strong demand from candidates, it was officially published in 2003. Later, the two professors personally edited and revised it, leading to multiple reprints. The Sunflower Series of Judicial Examination Books is guided by a scientific layout and is highly suitable for both judicial examinations and guiding judicial practice. The core motivation behind Professor Fu Ying and Professor Wang Feng writing this series was to demonstrate the rigor and practicality of their work through their profound knowledge, while also enhancing the effectiveness of the material in preparing for exams. From the main content arrangement to the design of the format and the elegant cover style, the book is loved by candidates and has been widely emulated by publishers. One of the series, "Advanced Course for the National Judicial Examination," though named a "course," features an innovative layout and extensive knowledge content that surpasses ordinary exam preparation books. Its professionalism is sufficient for use as a college-level law textbook. If students study this book diligently, accumulate knowledge, and not only master the judicial examination but also lay a solid professional foundation for future legal careers, because while teaching legal knowledge, the book subtly conveys the invaluable legal thinking of a legal professional through its unique structure and reasoning methods. Some students complain that the series is too heavy and difficult to handle. However, it must be noted that the difficulty of the judicial examination has been increasing year by year and is no longer the same as the lawyer qualification examination of years ago. Under such circumstances, it is impossible to pass the exam through short-term cramming. Relying on a book that simply highlights "essentials" or "key points" and expecting to pass the exam through quick preparation is nothing but a misguided approach. The two professors did not cater to or encourage this wrong mindset but continued to dedicate their efforts with a scientific spirit and a pragmatic attitude. Despite being called the "Sunflower Bible," the series contains no shortcuts or gimmicks. "Advanced Course for the National Judicial Examination" includes: "Civil Law," "Criminal Law," "Civil Procedure Law and Arbitration Law," "Criminal Procedure Law," "Administrative Law and Administrative Procedure Law," "International Law · Private International Law · International Economic Law," "Commercial Law and Economic Law," "Jurisprudence · Legal History · Constitution · Legal Ethics" (eight books in total). It follows the National Judicial Examination syllabus and is based on laws, regulations, and (supplementary judicial interpretations). The content is organized by subject. The book adopts academic consensus and creatively divides each chapter into four levels:
Level 1: Key Points Summary — Lists the relatively important points of each section. The precision of the Key Points Summary lies in directly targeting the section's focus, using simple language to clarify the intrinsic logic of law and creating a comprehensive learning framework. It helps students understand what knowledge to absorb during review to fill this framework and solidify it in memory. Without this level, jumping directly to "key points" would yield poor results, which is precisely the significance of the Key Points Summary.
Level 2: Relevant Legal Provisions — Collects important provisions that may be examined, arranged scientifically for easy association. This level organizes provisions related to the section based on their importance, grouping them by key points. The cited provisions include those found in general "Judicial Examination Laws and Regulations Compilation" but also those not mentioned there but crucial for solving special problems and understanding legislative intent, such as "Supreme People's Court Approvals" and "Supreme People's Court Letters." Gathering comprehensive laws, regulations, and important yet overlooked "approvals" and "letters" is a monumental task. Most judicial examination preparation books only reference the provisions in the "Judicial Examination Laws and Regulations Compilation" and ignore equally important or more easily understood and widely used "approvals" and "letters." Professors Fu Ying and Wang Feng keenly recognized the importance of this content. Additionally, under a specific legal system, besides the relevant laws and regulations, provisions from closely related legal systems that are easily confused, may be exam points, and are fully emphasized, allowing students to compare, generalize, and interconnect key knowledge for more efficient review. These efforts make the "Relevant Legal Provisions" level more comprehensive and richer in content than ordinary "Key Legal Provisions" books. At the same time, it is far more concise than general "Laws and Regulations Compilations" and can fully replace both "Key Legal Provisions" and "Laws and Regulations Compilations."
Level 3: Legal Provision Commentary — Provides interpretation of the relevant legal provisions in each section. Based on the content of the "Relevant Legal Provisions," this level offers authoritative explanations to clarify the true meaning of the provisions, avoiding misunderstandings and dead ends in learning. It also highlights easily confused or error-prone areas by connecting related provisions, enabling students not only to memorize the provisions but also to understand their essence. Memorizing and applying provisions with understanding ensures success.
Level 4: Section Puzzle Solving — Fully understands the legislative intent and the examiner's reasoning, further explaining the connections and applications of provisions. This is the core of the series. It provides concise arguments for each section's key points, analyzes examination directions, explains why questions are posed from a certain angle, and offers strategies for more effective review. It ensures that related knowledge points and easily overlooked yet important details are covered while reviewing. The book also includes bolded "Points to Note" to highlight easily misunderstood, overlooked, or confused content.
Beyond fully absorbing the strengths of other judicial examination books and avoiding pitfalls, the two professors have uniquely excelled in language organization and narrative style, using plain yet clear language to explain complex legal issues. Their ability is truly remarkable, allowing students who have used this series to realize that law is not as obscure as commonly perceived but a sacred field filled with wisdom, mission, and allure.
Additionally, it is very important to note that if you encounter difficulties while studying this book, you can visit the Sunflower Legal Forum (Sunflower Bible Judicial Exam Forum www.khbd.com.cn) hosted by the two professors.
