Features: The Temple of Heaven is the largest extant complex of buildings dedicated to heaven worship in the world. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in December 1998. Located southeast of the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Temple of Heaven was the site where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties performed grand ceremonies to worship heaven. It covers an area of 273 hectares, with a layout featuring a circular northern section and a square southern section, symbolizing the round sky and square earth.
