Features: Since the 1980s, the study of Huizhou culture has spanned over two decades, achieving substantial results in various topics such as Huizhou merchants, Huizhou clans, and Huizhou social culture. As a new interdisciplinary field, Huizhou studies have grown increasingly influential, with academia giving more and more recognition to its academic prospects. This collection of essays is compiled based on previous thoughts and discussions. The first part includes representative published papers from the 1980s up to the "Connotation and Discipline Construction of Huizhou Studies" symposium, broadly reflecting the earlier contemplations on the essence of Huizhou studies. These papers remain unmodified, preserving their original form to faithfully reflect the historical process of thought. The editors have only made necessary technical arrangements and corrected some obvious errors. The second part consists of papers from the "Connotation and Discipline Construction of Huizhou Studies" symposium. The authors have made careful revisions and refinements after the conference, with some papers already published in journals. As they were submitted to the symposium, they are all included here. It can be said that both parts reflect the thoughts of Huizhou scholars since the rise of the field. Compared to Dunhuang studies, as a discipline, Huizhou studies have a relatively short history. The historical documents and cultural heritage of Huizhou are extremely rich, and their academic value and potential may be beyond our current estimation. Research on various topics has just begun, and academic perspectives need continuous expansion. Therefore, this collection of essays is both a summary of past and current theoretical reflections on Huizhou studies and a starting point for future theoretical exploration in the field.
