Features: New Interchange, part of the Cambridge International English series, is one of the most popular and influential English textbooks globally. It incorporates eight years of classroom experience from around the world, extensively gathers feedback from students and teachers, and has undergone comprehensive improvements and enhancements to the original Interchange. The main revisions include: new conversation exercises (Conversations), new cultural snippets (Snapshots), new reading exercises (Readings), more extensive grammar explanations and activities (Grammar Focus models and activities), and richer listening materials. Additionally, the teacher's book, workbook, and video content have also been significantly revised.
New Interchange is a large-scale English course designed for learners in non-English-speaking countries. The course covers listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as pronunciation training and vocabulary expansion. It places particular emphasis on developing listening and speaking skills. The primary goal of this book is to cultivate English communicative competence—the ability to flexibly use English based on communicative contexts, purposes, and audiences. The book primarily uses American English, but its content is not limited to any single country, region, or culture. Instead, it reflects the richness and diversity of English as a global lingua franca.
The course is divided into four levels: Starter, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.
- Starter Level: Designed for "true" beginners with no prior English knowledge, it covers basic grammar structures, vocabulary, and language functions.
- Level 1: Aimed at learners with a basic English level, it further develops grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, enabling learners to reach a low-intermediate level.
- Level 2: Targeted at learners with a low-intermediate English level, it continues to enhance grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, preparing learners for an intermediate level.
- Level 3: For learners with a mid-intermediate English level, it focuses on developing the ability to communicate in English with greater fluency and accuracy.
Through a variety of engaging and challenging exercises, the textbook helps students further strengthen and develop their communicative abilities in English. In addition to applied skills practice, the course also includes advanced discourse comprehension exercises. Listening activities include: listening to narratives, advertisements, discussions, and interviews. Reading activities feature authentic passages on topics such as cross-cultural communication, lifestyles, and different values. Upon completing all four levels, learners will reach a mid-high intermediate level.
