Features: New Interchange, the Cambridge International English Course, is one of the most popular and influential English textbooks internationally. It summarizes eight years of classroom teaching experience worldwide, improves the original Interchange through extensive solicitation of opinions from students and teachers, and makes comprehensive revisions. The main revisions include: the addition of new conversation exercises (Conversations), new cultural snippets (Snapshots), new reading exercises (Readings), more extensive grammar explanations and exercises (Grammar Focus models and activities), and richer listening materials. At the same time, the teacher's book, workbook, and video content have also been extensively revised. New Interchange is a large-scale English course designed for learners in non-English-speaking countries. The course content includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as pronunciation training and vocabulary expansion. It particularly emphasizes the development of listening and speaking skills. The primary goal of this book is to cultivate English communicative competence, i.e., the ability to flexibly use English based on communicative contexts, purposes, and audiences. The book primarily uses American English, but its content is not limited to any particular country, region, or culture. Instead, it reflects the richness and diversity of English as a global lingua franca. This course is divided into four levels: Starter, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.
Starter Level: Designed for "true" beginners with no English foundation, it explains basic grammar structures, vocabulary, and language functions.
Level 1: Aimed at learners with a basic level of English, it further develops grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, enabling learners to reach a low-intermediate level.
Level 2: Aimed at learners with a low-intermediate level of English, it further develops grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, enabling learners to reach an intermediate level.
Level 3: Aimed at learners with a middle-intermediate level of English, it cultivates the ability to communicate in relatively fluent and accurate English.
This textbook, through a variety of thought-provoking and challenging exercises, enables students to further consolidate and develop their ability to communicate in English. In addition to applied skills exercises, the textbook also includes various advanced discourse comprehension exercises. Listening exercises include: listening to narratives, listening to advertisements, listening to discussions, and listening to interviews. Reading activities include: cross-cultural communication themes, lifestyle themes, themes of different values, and other authentic reading passages. After completing all four levels, learners can reach a high-intermediate level.
