Woyunlou Piano Scores - One Box, Five Volumes

Author: Ma Zhaochen

Publishing Date: 2005-03-01
Features: The Woyunlou Guqin was compiled by Ma Zhaochen during the Qing Dynasty. Ma Zhaochen, styled Yunting, was from Shanyin and had the studio name Woyunlou. He studied guqin under Lu Nai, one of the representatives of the Guangling school of guqin, and achieved great proficiency in the instrument. Although the book is signed as compiled by Ma Zhaoxuanchen, it was actually published in the 61st year of the Kangxi reign (1722), when Ma Zhaochen used the original Qinpu Ximi from his teacher Lu Nai's self-styled studio, Zixiuxuan, and added Lu's Xihua and Qiuhong, renaming it The Woyunlou Guqin. It contains a total of thirty-two pieces. This book can be considered a re-engraving of Qinpu Ximi, largely preserving and organizing the guqin repertoire of the Guangling school. Due to the long history of ancient books, there are faded sections in the text, and the fifth volume, page 34, is missing. Despite efforts to fill the gap, limitations in resources prevented a complete restoration. Blank pages are used to indicate the missing sections, and the reader is kindly requested for understanding.
