Features: This book discusses modern Western political philosophy. Specifically, the main contents of modern Western political philosophy include the following points:
(1) The category of political values. It is a concise summary of political values and the theoretical outcome of the development of human political value concepts.
(2) The topic of political value relations. Political life is intricate and complex, with political phenomena displaying a rich diversity, which determines the variety and fluidity of perspectives on political norms. In modern Western political philosophy, some emphasize freedom, while others emphasize order; some argue that freedom is superior to equality, while others argue that equality is superior to freedom; some believe that political life must adhere to moral requirements, while others believe that political life aims to safeguard the interests of all social members. As a result, a series of political value relation topics have emerged, such as freedom and order, freedom and equality, morality and utility, sovereignty and human rights, and freedom and responsibility.
(3) The laws and trends of the evolution of political value concepts. Political value concepts are neither stage-specific nor eternal and unchanging. Different classes hold distinct political value concepts, and even within the same class, different historical eras or internal strata and interest groups may have varying political value concepts. However, this does not mean that the process and trends of political value concept evolution are chaotic and unpredictable.
(4) Ideal political order models. Political orders are diverse, and the criteria for classifying them are also varied.
(5) The theoretical foundation of political norms. To regulate social and political phenomena, some theoretical principles must be used as a basis. Among the theoretical foundations of political norms, the most important is the basic principles of the social and historical view. Starting from different social and historical views will lead to different combinations of political norms.
