The Public English Test System (PETS), abbreviated as PETS, is a series of exams jointly designed and developed by the National Education Examination Center of China, the British Department for International Development, and the British University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate. Its purpose is to reasonably set evaluation standards for each level of the exam based on a unified ability scale, in line with China's social development, especially the needs of reform and opening-up and expanding foreign exchanges. It focuses on assessing candidates' language communicative abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, in order to support relevant teaching reforms, ensure the equivalence of candidates' scores across different exam sessions at the same level, improve the reliability of the exam, gradually link exams related to higher education admission, overseas study, and self-study, making the use of candidates' scores more diverse and ultimately serving the reform of recruitment and examination systems for employment. PETS is divided into 5 levels and is open to the public, with no restrictions on candidates' profession, age, or educational background. This series of books provides simulated tests of varying difficulty levels for candidates at different levels, enabling them to improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in real exam scenarios and thereby overcome the challenges of the exam. PETS Level 3 is the intermediate level among the 5 levels, with standards equivalent to that of high school graduates who have studied public English for two years in a university or self-studied a comparable level of English. Candidates who pass the Level 3 exam will have English proficiency that meets the needs of administrative secretaries, executive assistants, general managers, or technical personnel in enterprises and institutions, as well as employees in foreign companies. The Level 3 exam focuses on assessing both grammatical and lexical knowledge in language, as well as language application abilities that include interactive, receptive, and productive skills. It consists of a written test and an oral test. The written test lasts 120 minutes and is divided into 4 sections: listening, English knowledge application, reading comprehension, and writing. This book is strictly compiled according to the Level 3 syllabus, including 11 sets of simulated tests and one set of new authentic exam papers. Each set of questions, whether in form or content, is strictly based on past Level 3 exam papers, allowing candidates to immerse themselves in the exam atmosphere and prepare psychologically and technically for the test, achieving confidence and clarity. As the saying goes, "A workman must first sharpen his tools before he begins his work." Choosing a good book and maintaining a dedicated mindset will make success a natural outcome.
