Features: The writing of this textbook highlights the following characteristics: , emphasizes the main content of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Regarding A History of Chinese Medicine, previous editions of textbooks and various specialized works have primarily focused on the history of TCM, with brief discussions on the history of minority medicine and the medical and health conditions during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period. After collective discussions by the editorial committee during the revision of this textbook, it was agreed that this textbook should concentrate on the history of TCM development. For example, the history of minority medicine, in previous editions, only provided fragmented discussions on Tibetan and Mongolian medicine, failing to form a systematic framework. Moreover, there is very rich content in the fields of Uyghur, Dai, and Yao medicine. To systematically introduce all of this in this textbook would be overly lengthy, and such an important task should be completed by specialized works in this area. Second, it highlights the developmental characteristics of TCM in different historical periods. In determining the titles of chapters in the textbook, it strives to ensure that the titles reflect the core and mainstream of the content, and the introductory sections of each chapter aim to present the special developments in medical practice during that period from a broad social context.
