Landscape painting is one of the major genres of Chinese painting, focusing on depicting natural scenery. It gradually developed during the Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern Dynasties and became an independent genre by the Sui and Tang Dynasties. During the Five Dynasties and Song and Yuan Dynasties, landscape painting flourished, with numerous artists emerging, represented by Jing Hao, Guan Tong, Li Cheng, Dong Yuan, Ju Ran, and Fan Kuan. The green-and-gold landscape paintings of Wang Ximeng and Zhao Bochu reached a peak of northern and southern rivalry, marking it as a significant genre in Chinese painting. In the Yuan Dynasty, landscape painting leaned toward expressionism, emphasizing the use of brushwork and ink to convey spiritual essence, thus pioneering a new style. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the modern era, it continued to evolve with new developments. In terms of artistic expression, it focuses on composition and conveying artistic conception. The main forms include ink, green-and-gold, gold-and-ink, boneless, light red, and light color styles.
