Publisher:
Publish Date: 1996-01-02
Features: The first work in this volume is Marx's "The Civil War in France." It was published as a manifesto from the General Council of the International Workingmen's Association to all its members in Europe and America. On March 18, 1871, the Paris proletariat heroically carried out an armed uprising and proclaimed the establishment of the Paris Commune. Marx immediately collected and studied materials on the activities of the Commune, successively writing a first draft, a second draft (excerpts of which are included in this volume), and finally completing this work. Here, Marx describes the practical activities of the Paris Commune during its 72 days of existence, summarizes its lessons and experiences, further develops Marxist theories on the proletarian revolution and the state, as well as the theory of the dictatorship of the proletariat. He also discusses the economic policies of the proletariat after taking power and the issue of the proletariat's allies.
