Features: Reading is a kind of diet for the brain. After the 21st century, the diet of reading has undergone qualitative and quantitative changes! The "NetandBooks" series by Network and Books has been planned for four years, gathering the participation of authors from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, as well as international authors, to propose the passion and advocacy for reading! This book takes the six thousand years of reading history and development as its theme, from images to text—from the carvings on the walls of Angkor Wat to Gutenberg's movable type printing—and then back from text to images, such as the use of the World Wide Web (WWW). All of these are forms of reading. Additionally, it introduces six people related to the internet, four perspectives on books, the reading places of historical figures, and interviews with Jia Mi and Xie Chun-de. Books are a traditional form of the internet. The internet is a new form of books. This re-exploration of reading is therefore named "netandbooks" (Network and Books).
"NetandBooks" hopes to transcend the boundaries between printed books and online reading, and also to cross geographical boundaries from many aspects. Every theme, the books and websites discussed under each theme, the authors, and the working methods of this project all aim to cross geographical boundaries. To cross these boundaries, we must narrow our own stance as much as possible, preferably returning to a single origin point. Before our own region, profession, or identity, we are all readers. No reader is necessarily superior to another, nor is any reader's experience identical to another's. In the dense forest of knowledge, we are all (exploring forward). Facing such a forest, when each of us speaks, it should not be because we feel we have reached a certain height, but rather because we want to share our own、 (exploration and struggles), the difficulties encountered along the way, and the joy of finding that leaf with everyone. We hope all readers will participate in this sharing—not only by reading others' shares but also by offering your own.
A future medium, like a computerized supersensory perception, will process consciousness into collective environmental content. McLuhan, 1965
You have mostly endured the social and political trials of your life within your own control. As long as you have the will and courage to change, you can. If you are willing to find a path and follow through, you can live a wiser life. You just haven't realized your own strength. Plato
