Features: Nearly a century of Hong Kong cinema history, full of excitement and variety. Behind the vivid screen images and moving film stories are the infinite efforts of a group of dream builders who sacrificed their lives, wisdom, and perseverance. They constructed the beautiful myth of Hong Kong as the "Hollywood of the East," creating a coordinate on the cultural map of the world that represents the achievements of new-era Chinese commercial cinema. On one side is joy, on the other is suffering; on one side is glamour, on the other is reality. Beyond the brilliance, how much genuine emotion can be felt? That will be the world of Hong Kong film directors. This is an extraordinary book worth slow reading for industry professionals, film and art enthusiasts, and readers interested in Hong Kong cinema. The author's writing is fluent, the described characters and stories are vivid and detailed, and the creative journeys of each director are meticulously portrayed. Although this edition only includes the careers and inner journeys of five renowned Hong Kong directors, slow reading will yield many valuable insights. The book describes the representatives of outstanding Hong Kong directors. From the perspective of cultural development, their works must not be measured solely from a commercial standpoint. For the directors discussed in the book, the author has access to extensive materials, has studied their works, and has a unique understanding of each director's films and their personal styles. Therefore, despite having different representative works, life trajectories, and film genres, these Hong Kong directors share the same goals and directions toward success.
