- The fifth section (Volume 5) is on miscellaneous discussions and treatment plans, selecting arguments from various scholars on tongue diagnosis and related medical cases, with an appendix of key treatment formulas for tongue conditions.
The book contains rich content but includes some speculative discussions. A stone-printed first edition exists. After 1949, there were photocopied editions.
"Illustrated Guide to Tongue Diagnosis" was written by the modern medical scholar Cao Bingzhang. Based on collecting nearly 100 types of ancient and modern literature on tongue diagnosis, Cao simplified and refined the content, revising it five times. The book is divided into five sections and six volumes. It provides detailed discussions on the physiology of the tongue, the content and key points of tongue diagnosis, various methods of diagnosing and treating diseases using the tongue, effective herbal formulas for tongue-related conditions, and ancient and modern medical cases of tongue diagnosis, along with over 130 illustrations of the tongue.
