This book is organized and compiled by the High-Tech Industry Department of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Chinese Society of Biotechnology. It is the third annual report on the biotechnology industry since the publication of China Biotechnology Industry Development Report (2002). In 2004, the conclusion of the soft project "Biotechnology Industry Development Strategy" by the state and discussions on the definition, scope, and statistical indicator system of the "biotechnology industry" had a significant impact on the biotechnology industry. Building on the style of the previous two volumes, this book fully reflects the above content, with a more substantial expansion of the covered industry scope and the incorporation of many new materials and data. The book consists of five parts. The first part is the Development Strategy section, which timely reflects the main research results of the state's "Biotechnology Industry Development Strategy" soft project. The second part is the Expert Forum section, which addresses the preliminary consensus reached by experts in the discussion on the scope of the "biotechnology industry." It discusses "Pharmaceutical Industry as an Important Component of the Biotechnology Industry" and "Technological Transformation of Traditional Biotechnology Industries through Biotechnology Advances." The third part is the Key Industries section, which elaborates on some key industries in the biotechnology industry, taking into account the development and changes in the scope of the "biotechnology industry" mentioned above and appropriately expanding the industry scope. The fourth part is the Local section, which introduces the basic conditions and investment environment of the biotechnology industry in seven provinces. The fifth part is the Enterprise section, which introduces some biotechnology enterprises. This book is suitable for researchers and professionals in biotechnology and related fields, as well as for the development, production, sales, and management personnel of the biotechnology industry and related industries, and for staff of relevant government departments.
