1. Based on the Teaching Syllabus, the Integrated Teaching Design Plan, and the actual needs of learning, we have compiled the "Study Guide for Selected Readings in Ancient Chinese Literary Theory." The book is divided into five parts: Preface and Brief Analysis; Translations of Selected Readings in Literary Theory; Comprehensive Practice Questions for Each Section; Final Self-Assessment Questions; Appendices.
2. The reason for compiling the "Study Guide for Selected Readings in Ancient Chinese Literary Theory" is that in teaching practice, students have reported that the original texts of literary theory are difficult to read and their theoretical connotations are also hard to understand. Like other courses, they need a reference book to guide their learning. The purpose is also to help students better grasp the learning content and key points, facilitating both learning and review. The basis for compilation mainly includes the "Teaching Syllabus for Selected Readings in Ancient Chinese Literary Theory" and the textbook "Selected Readings of Chinese Literary Theory Throughout the Dynasties," as well as the lectures by the main instructor. To enhance understanding, the compilers have also included their own interpretations and elaborations.
3. "Preface and Brief Analysis" provides explanations of the key and difficult points of the textbook in relatively accessible language. Although primarily referencing the textbook, it does not strictly adhere to its views, aiming only to make the material easier to understand. Therefore, it avoids deep academic research and textual criticism.
4. "Translations of Selected Readings in Literary Theory" were compiled in response to student requests. Many students have weak classical Chinese reading skills, and the translations are intended to help them comprehend the original texts. The translations strive to remain faithful to the original, aiming for accuracy, clarity, and elegance. Reading classical Chinese, especially literary theory, primarily involves studying the original texts. Translations should only serve as references. The "Notes" are the compilers' interpretations and are also provided for students' reference. The format of the "Notes" varies, appearing either at the end of each text or after specific paragraphs, based on the compilers' discretion without a uniform requirement.
5. "Comprehensive Practice Questions for Each Section" are organized in chronological order and only include questions without answers, serving as tools for students' regular practice.
6. "Final Self-Assessment Questions" are also organized in chronological order, including questions with scoring, designed for students to self-assess during final review. Students can evaluate their own performance. The questions in "Final Self-Assessment Questions" and "Comprehensive Practice Questions for Each Section" are not intentionally avoided for repetition.
7. "Appendices" include additional materials and documents.
