Features: This series of textbooks is a new millennium Chinese language teaching material developed by a group of outstanding teachers from Peking University who have long been engaged in teaching Chinese to foreigners. It applies the theories of structure, situation, and function, with structure as the core, embedding structure and function within situations, focusing on mastering fundamental language knowledge. The book is divided into four levels: Starting, Accelerating, Sprinting, and Flying.
The Starting level is suitable for beginners, featuring 1,200 vocabulary words that cover most of the Level A words in the Outline of Chinese Language Proficiency Vocabulary Grading Standards. It also includes all Level A language points from the outline and some Level B language points. Upon completing the Starting level, students should be able to reach approximately HSK Level 3.
This textbook is the beginning level of the Boya Chinese series, specifically the Starting volume. Volume I is designed for absolute beginners, while Volume II is suitable for students who have mastered around 500 vocabulary words.
To meet the needs of beginners and address the characteristics of primary-level teaching, this textbook follows the principle of structuring lessons around language points, embedding them in situational contexts, to lay a solid foundation for future learning. In terms of content selection, it emphasizes practicality and realistic scenarios. Volume I focuses on students' studies and daily lives, featuring scenes closely related to campus and daily routines to help learners adapt quickly to everyday and academic needs. Volume II moves beyond the classroom into society and includes some culturally rich or entertaining short passages in later lessons, broadening students' perspectives and activities while helping them express more complex ideas in Chinese.
The textbook includes over 1,200 vocabulary words, covering most of the Level A words in the Outline of Chinese Language Proficiency Vocabulary Grading Standards. It also includes all Level A language points from the outline and some Level B points, with passages reaching about 600 words in length. The book consists of 55 lessons, with this volume containing 25 lessons. Each unit covers 5 lessons, with the 5th lesson serving as a unit review, summarizing the language points from the previous 4 lessons without introducing new ones.
Additionally, to enhance practicality, a separate phonetics section is included beyond the 55 lessons. Teachers can flexibly adapt this material to students' needs, providing additional teaching options.
