Features: The function of this book is to strive to build a bridge between professional, academic, and career paths, helping readers reduce blindness and improve the scientificity and success rate of decision-making when applying for majors and planning future career paths. A discipline is a lower-level concept of science, also known as a teaching subject, which is a system of scientific basic knowledge organized according to certain teaching theories. By appropriately selecting, organizing, and arranging the vast content of a science to make it suitable for the physical and mental development level of students and the level of education a certain school should achieve, corresponding disciplines and majors are formed. Since 1997, the Ministry of Education has been adjusting the narrow structure of majors in higher education institutions. In 1998, it issued the new "General Catalog of Undergraduate Majors in Higher Education Institutions," dividing disciplines into 11 major categories: philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and management. These 11 categories and the 249 majors they cover roughly outline the current major settings in China's higher education institutions.
The "Detailed Explanation of Majors" section objectively and concisely analyzes each major, allowing candidates and parents to compare their own characteristics and find majors that are both aligned with personal interests and hobbies and have development prospects among the many options. The "Detailed Explanation of Majors" section consists of the following two parts:
1. Major Introduction
- Initial Understanding of the Major: Provides an explanation of the connotation of the major.
- Academic Navigation: The learning content of the major, including the abilities cultivated and the main courses.
- Development Prospects: A positive outlook on the development trend of the major.
- Some majors have a "Frontier Topics" section: Lists the current hotspots and difficulties in research of the major.
2. Talent Shaping
- Candidate Potential: What kind of people are suitable for choosing this major.
- After Graduation: The talent cultivation goals of the major.
- Career Path: The employment destinations of graduates from the major.
The "Focus on Top Universities" section further selects and lists majors from universities with leading scientific research and teaching strengths, helping candidates and parents choose ideal universities after selecting majors, thereby completing the entire process of applying for majors in the college entrance examination.
To facilitate readers in searching for specific majors, an index of major names sorted by pinyin is appended at the end of the book. Due to the similarity in the content of some disciplines, this book combines the "Detailed Explanation of Majors" for these disciplines. For example, the Foreign Language and Literature category includes 37 majors, and the Chemistry category includes 2 majors.
