Zhu Shoutong's research on drama began during his master's studies. Inspired by the outstanding achievements of Professor Chen Shouzhu, he developed an interest in Tian Han and wrote an essay titled "The Aestheticism in Tian Han's Drama" as part of the assignment for Professor Dong Jian's course, "Studies on Modern Playwrights." After this article was published in Literary Review, his enthusiasm for modern drama research grew even stronger, leading him to write several more articles on drama and drama criticism. Zhu collected these essays (including the one co-authored with Professor Dong Jian on topics from the 1990s when it was first published) into this collection and supplemented it with additional pieces to compile this book.
