Features: The book "Practical Sports Medicine" is a comprehensive reference tool edited by the Institute of Sports Medicine at Peking University Health Science University (formerly the Institute of Sports Medicine, Peking University). Since 1965, it has been published in three editions. The content is divided into four main parts: sports health, sports nutrition, sports trauma, and medical sports (sports therapy). The material is presented in an accessible manner, emphasizing both fundamental theories and practical applications. As a result, it has been widely welcomed by sports medicine professionals, doctors, graduate students, and coaches. Sports medicine is an interdisciplinary field combining sports and medicine. It primarily studies the medical issues arising from physical activity and inactivity, aiming to improve medical care, prevention, rehabilitation, and training levels, thereby enhancing health and athletic performance. The goal is to better serve health through sports, and for professional athletes, there is an even more important task of improving performance to represent their country. With the development of the Olympic Movement, the training and competition of athletes have become increasingly intense, leading to a rise in related medical issues. Undoubtedly, the content of sports medicine also requires continuous updates and expansion. The third edition of "Practical Sports Medicine" was published in 1995, with writing beginning in 1993. Nearly a decade has passed since then, making a revision urgently needed. The guiding principles for this revision are: 1. Emphasizing the theoretical foundation of sports medicine but placing greater focus on the fundamentals relevant to clinical practice. Significant additions and deletions in content are planned. 2. Prioritizing new technologies that have proven effective and promising in practice. 3. Adapting to the needs of the Olympics. 4. Enhancing accessibility for readers. Based on these principles, the book now features a separate section on sports cardiology. It has also expanded the research progress related to new technologies in sports trauma, such as engineered cartilage, artificial menisci, cytokine expression in osteoarthritis, and increased coverage on imaging diagnosis techniques for trauma, arthroscopic surgery, and corresponding rehabilitation content. The chapters on sports nutrition and sports therapy have also been significantly revised from an applied perspective. This is a large-scale reference book written by multiple experts, with over 3 million words, each author bringing unique writing styles and expressions. To facilitate reading, efforts have been made to maintain consistency throughout the book.
