The biggest feature of the New Practical English-Chinese Dictionary lies in its newness. All entries related to China's recent social development, scientific research achievements, and economic reforms in recent years have been selected as subjects to ensure the freshness of the content. At the same time, selected entries that frequently appear have been refined. The dictionary contains a total of 1.8 million words. It is rich in content, covers a wide range of topics, and is highly practical, with example sentences provided after each entry for easy use. It is an essential reference for foreign language professionals and teachers and students of higher education institutions.
The dictionary is divided into two parts: the main dictionary and appendices. The main part of the dictionary includes a large number of phrases and collocations paired with each word. The dictionary is arranged in alphabetical order by the first letter of the word. Each entry is in bold upright type. Part of speech is in bold italic. All irregular forms appear in full in example sentences. Countable nouns (C) and uncountable nouns (U) are indicated. The collocations, idioms, compound words, and derived words listed after each entry are in bold upright type. Example sentences and phrases in the entries are in upright non-bold type. Foreign words are in bold upright type. If there are two pronunciations in the phonetic transcription, they are separated by a comma. When a word has multiple meanings, the closer meanings are separated by commas, and the more distant meanings are separated by semicolons.
