Features: The world has entered the knowledge economy era, and the innovation and accumulation of knowledge have become the most revolutionary driving force for economic development and social progress. To guide scientific and technological work, accumulate valuable scientific and technological history, and promote the scientific spirit and noble character of Chinese scientists, our publishing house has planned the "Series of Chinese Academicians." We sincerely dedicate this series to the great cause of China's "rejuvenation through science and education." This series consists of 17 volumes, with each volume dedicated to one of the 17 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. They are primarily born in the 1920s, have achieved significant results and received major awards. The main content of each volume generally includes three parts: academic thoughts, academic papers, and monographs or excerpts from monographs, encompassing the representative works of the authors from various periods (with emphasis on recent works). Additionally, each volume includes a "Biographical Sketch" that describes the authors' lives and academic careers, allowing us to trace their journey to becoming scientists and appreciate their intellectual style and personal strength. The sections are generally arranged in chronological order of publication. Due to the long time span, physical units and symbols are retained as originally published. The format is consistent across all volumes, and foreign-language works are kept in their original language. The series is edited by Professor Wang Ganchang, with the following editorial team members: Guo Chuanjie, Ge Nengquan, and Han Cunzhi were responsible for preliminary drafting; Zhou Yi, Tan Deyan, and Jiang Shuhua were responsible for preliminary review; Jiang Shuhua, in addition to administrative duties, also contributed significantly to the organization of the series. During the drafting and editing process, the editor-in-chief and editorial team members devoted their hearts and efforts, undertaking arduous work. Professor Wang Ganchang wrote the preface for the series, and President Lu Yongxiang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences wrote the preface for the volume "Robotics and Industrial Automation" by Jiang Xinong. Additionally, we received invaluable comments and assistance from four scientists: Chen Fangyun, Jiao Shude, Sun Daging, and Qian Yingqian. We sincerely express our gratitude to them all.
