Features: The "Frontiers of Scholarship" series aims to introduce cutting-edge works from foreign academia since the end of World War II, particularly those published after the 1960s, in order to promote disciplinary development and academic reflection in China, as well as address major challenges in contemporary academic frontiers. When the "Frontiers of Scholarship" series was launched, it coincided with the turn of the century. Modern Chinese intellectual culture, after more than a century of trials and twists, was entering a historical period with great potential for creative development. We remain committed, as always, to contributing our efforts to advancing the construction of Chinese academic culture. The Sociological Imagination is a masterpiece that synthesizes the essence of Mills' academic career. It critiques the achievements of American sociology as its central theme, employing the perspective of knowledge sociology and combining the author's research experience in social stratification to challenge the abstract and rigid boundaries of traditional disciplines. This underscores the significance of the "sociological imagination." First published in 1959, the book has now become a widely acclaimed introductory classic in sociological teaching worldwide, both in English-speaking regions and beyond. In 1989, the American sociological community even organized a special symposium to review its 30th anniversary. This Chinese translation is based on the 40th anniversary edition published by Oxford University Press.
