Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-01-01
Features:
(1) This book is annotated based on the facsimile reprint of "The Art of War with Annotations from Eleven Schools in the Song Dynasty" published by the Shanghai Editorial Department of Zhonghua Book Company in 1961. Where there are significant differences between this version and other editions, as well as the 1976 edition of "The Art of War from the Bamboo Slips of the Yinque Mountain Han Tomb" published by the Cultural Relics Publishing House, these differences are noted in the relevant annotations for reference by readers.
(2) Annotation Method of This Book: Below each chapter title, there is a brief summary of the content; the original text is punctuated according to its meaning; difficult characters, words, and sentences are annotated separately, with references cited as much as possible; each paragraph has a translation called "General Idea"; after each chapter, there is a "Brief Review," which provides a concise evaluation of the chapter's content. The original text generally uses simplified Chinese characters, with some ambiguous characters still retaining traditional forms.
(3) For some important phrases in "The Art of War" that have been historically interpreted differently, this book adopts a method of presenting multiple interpretations, but the "General Idea" primarily translates them based on our understanding.
(4) To help readers understand the military thought of "The Art of War," several relevant ancient Chinese battle cases are selected for annotation.
