Features: Since the publication of the first edition of the "New Nursing Diagnosis Handbook" in 1990, it has been well-received by nursing professionals and nursing educators. In late September 1995, the National Nursing Diagnosis Symposium was held in Huangshan, organized by the Nursing Center of the Ministry of Health. Delegates at the symposium discussed the significance of nursing diagnosis, the application of nursing diagnoses formulated by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), and how China could align with international standards. A certain consensus was reached. It was agreed that clinical nursing reform in China was imperative, and that the application of the nursing process should be strengthened on the basis of systematic holistic nursing to ensure high-quality care for patients. Therefore, it was necessary to popularize and enhance education in this area. At its 11th meeting in 1994, NANDA had revised and supplemented the existing nursing diagnoses. Some hospitals in China had also gained experience in applying them over the past few years. To update knowledge in a timely manner and keep pace with the times, after reaching a copyright agreement with NANDA, the 128 newly formulated nursing diagnoses by NANDA have been translated according to their original meaning and presented as the first chapter of this book to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of the current developments in nursing diagnosis. Since the current nursing diagnoses cannot cover all clinical issues, and some require collaborative management with other healthcare professionals, some scholars refer to such issues as "collaborative problems." We found this approach quite practical in clinical practice, and it has been elaborated on in Chapter 2. Chapters 3 and 4 introduce the specific applications of the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in clinical practice. They primarily describe how to conduct assessments and diagnoses based on the functional health patterns classification system and how to develop a nursing care plan.
