The center currently has 10 full-time researchers and 1 academic secretary, including 5 research fellows, 4 associate research fellows, and 1 intern researcher. Additionally, it has appointed a group of influential scholars as visiting researchers. Research Fellow Liu Jie serves as the director of the center. The establishment of the center aims to provide theoretical support and political advice for the development of Chinese socialist democracy. With a focus on strategic and policy-oriented research, it particularly emphasizes major theoretical and practical issues in the construction of contemporary Chinese democratic politics. Currently, the center's key tasks include compiling the annual report "China's Political Development Process" and conducting research on the series topic "Characteristics of Chinese Democratic Politics." This book is the second publication by the Research Center for Democratic Politics of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences following the 2004 report, and it has been officially listed as a key supported research project by the academy. Based on an analysis of the basic trends in China's democratic politics development and political civilization construction over the past year, this book comprehensively summarizes and reviews the significant achievements and existing problems in China's political development and democratic construction from perspectives such as governance capacity building, legal system development, the development and improvement of the NPC system, anti-corruption efforts, institutional construction under the "people-centered" concept, the constitutionalization of human rights, and the issue of involuntary migration. As an annual report, this book not only highlights the annual characteristics of China's political development but also places great emphasis on grasping the macro progress and long-term trends of China's political development. It presents the authors' reflections and insights on the deep-seated issues embedded in the process of China's political development.
