Features: Modern College English Listening is a supplementary listening textbook for the Modern College English series, edited by Professor Yang Limin of Beijing Foreign Studies University as the chief editor. The series consists of four volumes, edited by Professor Jin Li of Beijing Foreign Studies University, and is designed for first and second-year English majors in higher education institutions as well as other English learners with comparable proficiency. This book is the second volume in the series, intended for first-year students in their second semester. It is divided into two parts. The first part is classroom listening (intensive listening), used in the classroom. From the selected passages to the exercise design, it is suitable for teachers to guide students in learning, accompanied by a corresponding teacher's manual. The second part is independent listening (extensive listening), to be completed outside the classroom. The exercises are all open-ended questions, and the listening scripts are provided at the end of each lesson. Referencing the requirements of the teaching syllabus, the difficulty level of this book is roughly synchronized with Modern College English Intensive Reading. One of its features is the rich and diverse language materials selected, which are closely related to real life and focus on the practical use of language rather than simply pursuing the quantity of vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on understanding and mastering the content. Another feature is that the content is organized by topics. The 15 units cover 14 different topics (with News accounting for two units), and they are designed to progress from easy to difficult, with the speed of speech gradually increasing from slow to fast. This arrangement aligns with the requirements of situational teaching methods and is relatively suitable for listening instruction.
