Features: To adapt to the needs of broadening majors and reducing teaching hours in higher education, this textbook is written for various civil engineering majors. It highlights new achievements in engineering surveying theory and technology brought by technological advancements, reflecting the application of new technologies in electronic science, computer science, space science, and laser technology in recent years. In response to the increasing differentiation between surveying and engineering surveying, the content on "surveying" has been reduced while emphasizing "surveying and setting out." The content of each chapter is closely linked to current national standards; key terms are presented in both Chinese and English; deformation monitoring is treated as a separate chapter to highlight its growing practical significance. The book is divided into 15 chapters. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the basic principles of measurement and positioning; Chapters 2, 3, and 4 discuss the measurement methods for the three basic quantities—elevation, angle, and distance, respectively; Chapter 5 discusses measurement errors and the basics of adjustment; Chapter 6 covers small-area control surveying; Chapter 7 introduces the basic knowledge of topography and briefly describes its applications. Starting from Chapter 8, the focus shifts to surveying and setting out for civil engineering projects. Chapter 8 is dedicated to the basic tasks of surveying and setting out, while Chapter 9 covers construction surveying for industrial and civil buildings. Chapters 10, 11, and 12 introduce the key technologies of surveying and setting out for highway engineering, bridge and culvert engineering, and municipal and water conservancy engineering, respectively. Chapter 13 provides a detailed introduction to deformation monitoring, primarily discussing settlement observation and environmental deformation monitoring of deep foundation pits. Chapter 14 briefly describes the principles and applications of the GPS global positioning system. Chapter 15, using the Ashtech receiver as an example, specifically introduces the application of RTK technology in the construction of high-grade highways. The appendices at the end of the book list relevant laws, standards, and other regulations in civil engineering surveying for reference. In addition to serving as a textbook for undergraduate and junior college students in civil engineering, this book can also be used as a reference for civil engineering professionals engaged in construction and supervision.
