Features: The compilation of Glossary of Highway Engineering Terms began in 1981, led by Wang Qingchi, Wang Minggang, Li Zhangzhao, Bi Jingyang, and others from the Highway Planning and Design Institute of Ministry of Transport. The first draft was completed in 1982 and sent to various transportation bureaus in provinces, cities, autonomous regions, as well as design, research, and university institutions for extensive feedback. The second draft was compiled in 1983, followed by a discussion meeting held in Emei, Sichuan, involving 35 units from the highway, urban construction, and university sectors. After further revisions based on the meeting's suggestions, the draft for submission was completed in 1984. In January 1985, the Highway Bureau of Ministry of Transport approved the draft with suggestions for further revisions. Subsequently, the Highway Planning and Design Institute organized Cao Zhuangzhuang, Fan Fan, He Xiumei, and Sun Liren to revise the draft again. Another evaluation meeting was held in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, in November 1985, followed by additional revisions and supplements, ultimately completing the final draft, which was then submitted to Ministry of Transport for approval. This standard consists of fourteen chapters, totaling 924 terms. The first three chapters primarily cover general terms and some terms related to transportation engineering, including Chapter 1: General Terms, Chapter 2: Highway Types, and Chapter 3: Highway Traffic. Chapters 4 to 11 mainly deal with terms related to engineering entities, including Chapter 4: Highway Composition, Chapter 5: Survey and Route Selection, Chapter 6: Subgrade Engineering, Chapter 7: Pavement Engineering, Chapter 8: Bridge and Culvert Engineering, Chapter 9: Tunnel Engineering, Chapter 10: Maintenance and Management, and Chapter 11: Engineering Materials and Tests. The last three chapters cover terms related to testing instruments, construction machinery, and traffic management, including Chapter 12: Testing Instruments and Material Testing Instruments, Chapter 13: Construction Machinery, and Chapter 14: Traffic Management. An English-Chinese name is also appended at the end of the book.
