Features: The occurrence of multiple biological laboratory infection incidents in China between 2003 and 2004 led to a deeper understanding of biological hazards among the government and the broader scientific research community. In 2004, the state issued the State Council Decree No. 424, "Regulations on the Filtration of Pathogenic Microorganisms in Laboratories," and the national standard "Laboratories—General Requirements for Biological Safety—GB19489—2004," which emphasized that biosafety cabinets, as the primary safety equipment in biological laboratories, are essential for protecting laboratory personnel. It requires that laboratory operators must be capable of using biosafety cabinets in standardized and standardized ways. Given the current demand for biosafety cabinet knowledge and training among laboratory workers, this book systematically introduces the classification, functions, and applications of biosafety cabinets, their structure, exhaust and/or supply systems (high-efficiency particulate air filters), basic principles for selecting biosafety cabinets for laboratories, installation principles and requirements, laboratory operation procedures, and daily maintenance requirements. For biosafety cabinet manufacturers, the book provides a systematic description of various terms and definitions, classifications, design, structural, and performance requirements, test methods, inspection rules, markings, labels, and instructions, packaging, transportation, and storage requirements used in the design, production, and testing/validation of biosafety cabinets. In the appendix, it details the testing/validation methods, selection and calibration of testing instruments, requirements for factory inspection, and on-site inspection requirements. This book is suitable for reference by microbial and biomedical laboratory personnel and graduate students, hospital clinical laboratory staff, engineering technicians involved in the production, installation, and maintenance of biosafety cabinets, as well as unit administrators or administrative personnel responsible for procurement.
