In 1993, the prestigious British Wellcome History of Medicine Institute ranked him as one of the top 29 great figures in world medicine, placing him fifth. The Treatise on Cold Damage is one of the Four Great Classical Works of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a masterpiece celebrated as the "sacred book of medicine" and revered as the standard by the TCM community. With its complete, systematic theoretical framework and effective practical application, the Treatise on Cold Damage laid the foundation for the study of cold damage and promoted the development of clinical medicine in TCM. Since its inception, the Treatise on Cold Damage has been a subject of great interest among TCM scholars, especially after the Jin Dynasty. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, research on the Treatise on Cold Damage flourished, leading to a "hundred schools of thought contending" scenario. After the founding of New China, the study of the Treatise on Cold Damage entered a period of peak development, achieving unprecedented progress. The Treatise on Cold Damage enjoys an extremely high international reputation, particularly in Japan, where numerous ancient manuscripts are preserved, providing abundant materials and literature for research. Japan has also contributed to the advancement and refinement of cold damage studies. The Golden Chamber of Medicine (Jin Gui Yu Han Jing) is an ancient manuscript of the Treatise on Cold Damage, sharing the same content but with a different name. After being compiled and printed in the Northern Song Dynasty, it was lost and scattered. It was rediscovered in the Qing Dynasty but subsequently lost to Japan. In 1932, it returned to China, and in 1955, the People's published a photolithographic edition. This simplified-character horizontal edition is published alongside comparative checks with the Tang Dynasty Treatise on Cold Damage, the Song Dynasty Treatise on Cold Damage, the Dunhuang Manuscript Treatise on Cold Damage, the Commentary on the Treatise on Cold Damage, and the Pulse Canon, with annotations and explanations provided.
