Features: This book's framework mainly includes 1 comprehensive report and 25 thematic reports. The basic principle for writing the comprehensive report is that it should not be confined to the thematic reports, focusing primarily on describing, analyzing, and researching several major issues of China's sustainable development in the early stages of the new world from a macro, comprehensive, and strategic perspective. It is specifically divided into 5 parts.
Part 1 provides a brief review and evaluation of domestic and international research and efforts to promote sustainable development in recent years, demonstrating that choosing the path of sustainable development is an inevitable choice for China to achieve modernization.
Part 2 briefly analyzes the major contradictions and challenges China faces in implementing sustainable development in the early 21st century, aiming to raise's awareness and vigilance, strengthen the sense of responsibility and urgency in improving sustainable development efforts, and also indicate that we should be prepared for both (short-term battles) and (long-term struggles).
Part 3 focuses on elaborating the basic ideas for China's sustainable development strategy in the early 21st century, hoping to grasp the opportunities, guiding principles, and overall objectives of sustainable development from a broader perspective.
Part 4 emphasizes the six main tasks for implementing the sustainable development strategy in the short and medium term, along with some guiding suggestions for related fields.
Part 5 specifically studies the policy and measure safeguards for implementing the sustainable development strategy, particularly proposing systematic and concrete policy recommendations from five aspects: legal and institutional safeguards, economic policy incentives, scientific and technological support, coordinated regional development, and government public services, to enhance the relevance and feasibility of this research.
After the comprehensive report, the main research is divided into four major parts: ecological construction, environmental protection, climate change, and sustainable development, covering 25 thematic studies.
Among them, the ecological construction part includes 7 topics: forest and wildlife resource protection, forest belt construction, desertification prevention, ecological agriculture development, grassland protection and construction, soil and water conservation, and marine development and protection.
The environmental protection part includes 7 topics: air pollution control, water pollution control, solid waste and urban pollution control, promoting clean production, the environmental protection industry, water, drought, and geological disaster prevention, and environment and international trade.
The climate change part includes 2 topics: mitigating climate change and sustainable development, and the impact of climate change on ecological environment and human health, as well as adaptation.
The sustainable development part includes 9 topics: the theory and practice of sustainable development, sustainable population development, the relationship between population, resources, environment, socio-economic development trends, and coordination mechanisms, the legal construction of resource and environmental protection, China's sustainable development capacity building, sustainable land resource utilization, sustainable water resource utilization, sustainable urban development in China, and narrowing regional disparities and regional sustainable development.
