Features: This textbook is divided into 16 units and two tests. Each unit includes dialogue exercises as a warm-up for the remaining sections, while the rest of each unit provides a variety of practice activities, such as summarizing the main ideas of passages and expressing opinions. These exercises encourage active participation, help students accurately understand the content, and enable them to articulate what they have learned orally, which is essential for improving foreign language proficiency. The units in the textbook progress from easier to more challenging. Some vocabulary and expressions are listed separately for previewing, and the appendix includes the written materials for all audio recordings as well as answers to exercises, facilitating self-study or reference. New Century Graduate English Listening and Speaking Course is a textbook designed for non-English majors at the master's level to further enhance their English listening and speaking skills. It is also suitable for learners with intermediate or above English proficiency. This textbook has two key features. The first is its fresh and up-to-date content: the writing reflects new concepts in English teaching and summarizes the latest experiences in the field. The selected materials come from recent sources and topics, including reports on events such as the 9/11 incident and the SARS crisis gathered by the authors during their visits abroad. The second feature is its practicality. When compiling this textbook, we had a clear goal: to serve the students. A good textbook should be user-friendly and easy to use, allowing students to achieve significant progress in a relatively short time. This textbook strives to be closely aligned with students' daily lives and needs, covering topics related to their daily routines and studies, as well as cultural, customs, and fashion aspects of English-speaking countries. This helps students expand their background knowledge of these countries while learning the language. The first half of the textbook is comprehensive, while the second half focuses on single-topic units. This design aims to enable learners to acquire relevant knowledge and information in practice while improving their listening and speaking skills, broadening their knowledge base. Additionally, learners can accumulate and master expressions in different contexts, effectively enhancing their overall language proficiency.
