Features: Molecular diagnosis and prediction of tumors are important components of molecular medicine and have become a hot field in tumor research in recent years, even ranking first among the "Top 10 Key Biotechnologies Expected to Improve Global Health in the 21st Century." With the development of molecular biology, particularly the successful implementation of the Human Genome Project, the sequencing of the human genome, and the identification of related gene functions, there has been a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of tumor occurrence, development, and progression. This has enabled not only earlier detection and diagnosis of tumors but also the prediction of the risk of tumor development in populations or individuals (tumor susceptibility), etiological detection, assessment of malignant characteristics of tumors, prediction of responses to specific treatments (therapeutic efficacy prediction), and the possibility of metastasis and recurrence, as well as early detection. These advancements facilitate tumor diagnosis, classification, prognosis judgment, and treatment guidance. At the same time, they also impart new connotations to the traditional experimental diagnosis of tumors.
The book is divided into four parts:
Part 1 primarily introduces markers that can be used for molecular diagnosis and prediction of tumors. Diagnosis is about discovering differences, and markers are the foundation. It briefly describes the definition and classification of tumor markers, their development history and overview, the pathways for developing new molecular markers, the determination of clinical applications, and guidelines for the clinical application of commonly used markers. It also focuses on introducing the biological characteristics and applications of important markers such as AFP, CEA, PSA, HER/neu, and p53, as well as research hotspots such as the detection of nucleic acids in peripheral blood, genetic and molecular tumor diagnosis, and molecules related to tumor invasion and metastasis.
Part 2 primarily introduces the technologies related to molecular diagnosis and prediction of tumors.
Part 3 primarily introduces molecular diagnosis of tumors, including the approaches and significance of molecular tumor diagnosis (early diagnosis, molecular imaging, molecular classification and staging, and personalized treatment, etc.).
Part 4 focuses on molecular prediction of tumors, including molecular prediction of tumor invasion and metastasis, the detection of minimal residual cancer and its significance, prediction of tumor therapeutic efficacy and personalized treatment, and summarizes the research achievements of the author's institution on predictive indicators for liver cancer metastasis and recurrence.
