Features: Taiwan is a society composed of immigrants from different periods. As early as 5,500 to 6,000 years ago, ancestors crossed the sea from various parts of South China to Taiwan, forming Taiwan's earliest cord-marked pottery culture and introducing highly developed agricultural culture, which is now known as the origin of the "Indigenous Peoples." This wave of immigrants continued for a long time. Several hundred years ago, there were also "Atayal" people who migrated from the southern Philippines and settled on Orchid Island off the coast of Taitung. The Rukai and Paiwan tribes in the southern part of Taiwan Island also have connections with the Philippines. They belong to the same "Malayo-Polynesian" language family.
Taiwan is also like Yunnan, a treasure trove for ethnic research and studies. Many anthropologists of Chinese society and culture who are active in the United States and are over 45 years old have conducted field research and completed their doctoral degrees in Taiwan. Taiwanese anthropologists also utilize the rich ethnic resources here to complete their doctoral degrees at prestigious universities abroad.
