Later came the era where workplace issues, represented by quality control, were solved autonomously by the workforce. In this era, the significance of the 5S movement was as a means to solve problems. In the future, it will be an era of autonomous workplace management, where designated managers and supervisors operate according to established production methods to achieve certain profits. In the face of this era, the 5S movement will become one of the powerful tools for environmental and operational management in the workplace. The 5S movement is a means, a means to achieve a certain purpose. As the times change, the challenges of the workplace are also evolving rapidly, and the significance of the 5S movement will inevitably change as well. Currently, the manufacturing industry is in a period of unprecedented change. Due to the diversification of consumer needs, existing products are accumulating, forcing the implementation of a multi-variety, small-batch production system to reduce costs. The 5S movement is a tool to help the manufacturing industry overcome this challenge. It is hoped that this book will help readers understand the basic philosophy of the 5S movement and play a role in successfully implementing it in accordance with the demands of the times.
