Features: The Apoidea is one of the most advanced groups within the Insecta, and is closely related to human life as an insect resource. In addition to providing economically valuable products such as honey, royal jelly, beeswax, and propolis, the vast majority of species are pollinators for plants. Both domestically and internationally, the pollination by bees for crops has been recognized as an important component of modern agricultural development. The Apoidea comprises five families, and this work includes the Melittidae and Apidae. The content is divided into two parts: General Introduction and Specific Accounts. The General Introduction discusses the classification system, morphological characteristics, biological traits, and geographical distribution of the Apoidea. The Specific Accounts describe the morphological characteristics and distribution of the four subfamilies, nine tribes, 18 genera, and 48 subgenera of the Melittidae and Apidae, totaling 271 species (including 20 newly described genera and 48 newly recorded Chinese species). Keys to tribes, genera, subgenera, and species are provided under each subfamily. The work includes 218 illustrations, eight color plates, and one black-and-white plate. This work can serve as a reference for insectology teaching, research, and agricultural and forestry production departments.
