Features: The major feature of this series of teaching materials is that it covers five languages: English, Japanese, French, German, and Russian. Through a set of training methods that align with the objective patterns of interpreting, suit students' characteristics, progress step by step, and are efficient yet practical, it highlights the importance of interpreting skills and practical exercises. This interdisciplinary large-scale collaboration is a bold attempt unprecedented in history, reflecting the spirit of teamwork, brainstorming, mutual learning, resource sharing, and common development. The development of the five-language interpreting series embodies the guiding principles of "cultivating outstanding interpreting talents" and "emphasizing the skill training process." In this regard, we first introduce monologue listening and practice in the source language, including comprehension, dictation (both mental and note-taking), and speaking. As the number of words in the monologues increases and their structures and content become more complex, the focus is on training students' memory, note-taking, and bilingual oral expression skills, while also broadening their knowledge. This lays a solid foundation for interactive training in the next stage.
After several rounds of trial use, revision, and updating, The Shortcut for Simultaneous Interpretation—Advanced English Interpreting Skills Training Course is now officially presented to senior English majors, college and university students who have passed the College English Test Band 6 (CET-6), graduates, postgraduates, and a wide range of English interpreting enthusiasts with equivalent English proficiency. As a self-contained course suitable for both classroom teaching and self-study, it meets the teaching requirements of at least 18 weeks per semester with at least 4 class hours per week. Therefore, the The Shortcut for Simultaneous Interpretation—Advanced English Interpreting Skills Training Course should not require fewer than 72 class hours.
At the same time, this course can also serve as supplementary training material for the interpreting course in the English undergraduate program of the National College Entrance Examination for Self-Taught Adults, the Shanghai English Intermediate and Advanced Interpreting Qualification Examination, and the National Translation Qualification Certification Interpretation Examination organized by the Ministry of Personnel. To support self-study for English interpreting enthusiasts, this course is also accompanied by a CD-ROM. The CD-ROM contains 8 hours of audio materials and is designed with multiple training modes.
