Zhuzhishan Xing · Kaizi Er Zhong ((Original Color Printing) - Chinese Calligraphy Essence)

Author: Xu Hongliu
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2002-04-01
Features: Zhu Zhishan's brushwork slightly resembles running script and incorporates elements of clerical script. Most of the regular script from the past strove for neatness and rigor, but works like this one, with such lively style, truly open up a new realm. The brushwork is clear and vigorous (self-copied poems and "Nine Sorrows, Nine Poems"). Zhu Zhishan mastered the strengths of various calligraphers, led the trend of his generation, and was one of the "Three Great Masters of the Mid-Ming Period" in the Wumen School of Calligraphy. His calligraphy absorbed the essence of Tang Dynasty's Yu Shishan and Yuan Dynasty's Zhao Mengfu, while embracing the momentum of the Jin Dynasty's Wang Xizhi and Wang Xian's running script, Tang Dynasty's Huai Su's cursive script, and integrated them into a unique style. He developed his own distinctive cursive script, known as the "Ming Dynasty ," and was famously said to have left behind the saying, "Tang Bohu's paintings, Zhu Zhishan's calligraphy." His masterpieces include the "Six-Script Copy of Poems and Prose," "Cursive Copy of Du Fu's Poems," "Nineteen Ancient Poems," "Cursive Copy of Tang Poems," and "Cursive Copy of Poetic Correspondence." Although Zhu Yunming had no fame in painting, he could paint but rarely did so, leaving fewer masterpieces behind.
Zhu Zhishan was a witty, unrestrained, and exceptionally talented person, fond of traveling and enjoying nature without being. Due to Zhu Yunming's countless amusing anecdotes, he became a readily available source of creative material. Thus, Zhu Zhishan often appeared in numerous theatrical works such as "The Three Laughs" and "Wang Laohu's Wedding Robbery" as a clever, eloquent, and helpful character.
In addition to works like "Record of Eliminating Bandits in Jianghai," "News Chronicle," "Wild Records of the Nine Dynasties," "Early Anecdotes of Zhu Shanshan," "Floating Objects," "Old Monster Chronicle," "Small Compendium of Su Cai," and "Huaxing Hall Collection," Zhu Zhishan also compiled the "Xingning County Gazetteer."
