Features: Zhou Bangyan's Ci poems are profound, elegant, rich, and exquisite, widely recognized as a master of the gentle and refined style and regulated verse during the Northern and Southern Song dynasties. The compilers of this book have conducted extensive research on Zhou Bangyan and his works, having earlier completed the Annotations to the Collection of Qingzhuan. They further consulted discussions by scholars such as Yu Pingbo and Jiang Zhenlun, enabling them to reveal subtle insights and refine their understanding, resulting in this excellent reading edition of Zhou's Ci poems. This series of ancient "Classical Poetry and Ci Masters" is curated by Zhonghua Book Company, selecting renowned works by poets and writers from various dynasties, compiling the latest research findings to provide a systematic and accessible collection of poetry and Ci that appeals to both scholars and general readers. The publication was specially commissioned with the collaboration of over 30 experts and scholars from more than 20 institutions.
1. The primary criterion for selecting works is their popularity, while also considering their ideological and artistic value.
2. The selected texts are primarily based on authoritative versions, especially authoritative annotated editions, without providing collation notes. Minor variations are generally not explained, while significant ones are clarified in the annotations.
3. Each book includes an "Introduction" before the main text, offering a comprehensive and concise evaluation of the selected authors, works, and related content.
4. Works and their annotations are arranged chronologically. Works without a clear date are grouped at the end of the chronological entries.
5. Below each poem or Ci, there are "Explanatory Notes" and "Annotations." The former provides an introduction to the background, theme, writing techniques, artistic features, and relevant names, places, and reign periods, depending on the specific context. The latter addresses the needs of general readers, with particular attention to explaining allusions, specialized terms, and difficult expressions. Obscure characters are annotated with Pinyin, and confusing sentences are elaborated upon.
Through reading this series, readers can gain a thorough and systematic understanding of outstanding poets and their works in the history of Chinese literature, fostering spiritual resonance, enriching life experiences, and serving as a model for learning and imitation, which is beneficial for the creation of poetry and Ci.
