Features: This book is a history of exploration in Tibet. Tibet, a region long yearned for by Westerners during the Age of Discovery. The mystical highland of Tibet gradually came into the world's view. Filled with legendary adventures, thrilling events, and a diverse cast of characters, it forms a vast regional and cultural landscape. Most of Tibet and the entire Tibetan region of China have long been located in remote mountainous areas, shrouded in mystery. Especially since the Yuan Dynasty, Westerners have continuously sent envoys and explorers to Tibet. From John of Montecorvino's mission to Mongolia in 1245 to David Neil's entry into Tibet in 1925, this nearly 680-year history of exploration is roughly introduced in this book. Especially detailed is the history of British aggression against Tibet since the late 19th century, which the book records in greater depth. Readers will deeply feel all this as they read. It should be noted that due to geographical and historical reasons, before the 20th century, the outside world knew very little about Tibet, and Westerners in particular. Therefore, the accounts of Westerners in this book, especially in early travel writings, are heavily based on hearsay and misinformation. In the translation, some illustrations and texts filled with errors are retained to illustrate the yet somewhat true process of Western "discovery" of Tibet. In short, any inaccuracies or untruths in the book should be discerned by readers in conjunction with their existing knowledge.
