Professor Zhu Qiyuan was born in Yangshan County, Guangdong Province, in 1943 and graduated from the History Department of the Central University for Nationalities in 1966. In 1968, he was assigned to work in Gar County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet. In 1978, he was admitted to the graduate program in Tibetan history at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, studying under the renowned Tibetan scholar Wang Sen. He obtained his master's degree in 1982. Afterward, he worked continuously in the Institute of Ethnic Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, engaging in Tibetan studies. Over the years, Professor Zhu Qiyuan has been widely recognized by both domestic and international academic circles for his substantial academic achievements in ethnic studies, particularly Tibetan studies. During his lifetime, he wrote and edited, or co-authored, numerous monographs such as "Xixia—Song Dynasty Tibetan Regime," "The Relationship Between the Central Government and the Tibet Autonomous Region During the Republic of China," "The History of the Relationship Between the Tibet Autonomous Region and the Central Government," "Research on Ethnic Policies in Chinese History," and "The Formation and Development of National Unity in China." These works, known for their rigorous scholarship, reliable sources, and significant academic and social political value, have won multiple awards and high praise from the academic community. Among them, "Xixia—Song Dynasty Tibetan Regime" is the only monograph in China dedicated to the Tibetan regime established in the interior during the Song Dynasty. Many of the articles included in this collection were previously scattered across various academic compilations and journals, making it difficult for scholars to systematically utilize and reference them. The publication of this collection will facilitate the full utilization of Professor Zhu Qiyuan's academic achievements.
