Tuya's Tu Xie

Author: Tuoya
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-11-01
Features: He is often referred to as the "Online Wang Shuo." Early netizens did not deliberately hide their real identities, but Tuoya (sometimes also written as Tuoya, nickname Ya) was an exception. His true identity remains a mystery to this day. It wasn't until 1994, when his prose "The Legend of the Dragon Search" won a literary award and required a personal bio, that he first revealed some personal information. However, it was extremely limited—just "born in Beijing in the 1950s," which could be deduced from a close reading of his works. Tuoya's writings often include slang and Beijing dialect, giving the impression of being "full of nonsense." But his language is more renowned for its creative metaphors, humor, and irony, rather than just a mere reproduction of colloquial language that turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. Inspired by Tuoya's online fame and in honor of the pioneers of the Chinese internet, we have published a collection of his works.
