Modern Chinese Literature Treasury. Poetry Volume

Author: Radar / Zhao Xuyong, edited by Liu Qinghan, preliminary selection
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2004-10-01
Features: The purpose of compiling the "Poetry Volume" of the selected library is to comprehensively present the basic historical landscape of the creation and dissemination of vernacular Chinese poetry from 1917 to 2004 over nearly a century, providing a reliable anthology for the comprehensive reading and study of modern and contemporary Chinese poetry. The hundred years of Chinese vernacular poetry actually began with the individualized attempts of a few who had a deep sense of vernacular poetry. This attempt started with counter-forms, hybrid forms, and creative forms in response to classical, folk, and foreign poetic forms. The transformation of these attempts from individualized to socialized was fully demonstrated by journals such as "New Youth," "New Tide," "New Air," "Black Tide," and "Women's Bell," which showcased the basic conditions of the early years of this historical opening. This anthology cautiously grasps the basic trajectory of the development of Chinese vernacular poetry over the past century. However, in the specific process of selection, the compilers only savor the poetry itself—poetry as vast as the sea, as lush as the grassland, as nourishing as sunshine and rain. It flows from mountain to mountain, from heart to heart, with only poetry, no schools, no authors.
