Features: Control penalty is a unique form of punishment in China. Due to its emergence in the special era of the founding of the New China and being the lightest of the five main types of punishments currently in use in China, it has been applied in relatively small numbers so far. This book employs historical and comparative methods, from the perspectives of penology, criminology, and criminal policy, to systematically and deeply explore the developmental and evolutionary process of control penalty. It argues for the functional adaptability of control penalty and proposes the view that it should be retained and improved upon, addressing the long-standing debate over its abolition or retention. From the perspective of the current crime situation, the drawbacks of short-term imprisonment, and the advantages of applying control penalty, the book explains how control penalty aligns with the trends of lighter punishment, humanization, and economic efficiency.
