Features: The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is an important economic cooperation forum in the Asia-Pacific region. The forum aims to promote multilateral free trade and investment and foster regional economic growth, adhering to the principles of voluntary participation and consensus-based cooperation. Since its establishment, it has made outstanding contributions to promoting trade and investment liberalization and economic and technological cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as to regional economic development and common prosperity, becoming an important bond connecting countries and regions on both sides of the Pacific. In the process of conducting foreign exchanges and participating in international cooperation, the government's foreign policy decisions have been strongly supported by domestic academic institutions. Academic institutions and universities across the country have provided a large number of scientific and objective consulting reports and research findings to China's foreign affairs departments and have put forward many valuable policy recommendations. Recently, the APEC Research Center of Nankai University organized scholars in relevant fields to conduct in-depth research on several major issues in the development process of APEC and wrote nine monographs. These academic achievements, starting from a theoretical perspective and combining APEC cooperation practices and China's participation in cooperation, analyze and explore the challenges and opportunities APEC faces in the new historical period, and propose suggestions on how China can more deeply participate in the cooperation process, making them of high research and reference value. This book is divided into three parts. Part I includes chapters 1, 2, and 3, which use the basic principles of political economy to analyze and study the three main issues of APEC—trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, economic and technological cooperation, and the current status, contradictions, and dilemmas of APEC's approach and organizational form, with a focus on examining the interests and strategic conflicts between developed member countries and developing member countries in these areas. Part II includes chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, which use the basic principles of political economy to conduct an in-depth comparative study of the five important members of APEC—United States, Japan, Australia, ASEAN, and China—on their APEC goals, strategies, action measures, and performance, thereby demonstrating that geopolitical patterns determine the direction and process of APEC's development. Part III is chapter 9, which reevaluates the significance of APEC's existence and development and focuses on analyzing the prospects of strong institutionalization and soft institutionalization to seek new ideas and strategic choices for promoting APEC's development.
