Of course, this was impossible. So, he imagined the bus driving into the night, and she grew tired and rested against him. Or perhaps the bus crashed on the side of the road, but they both emerged unharmed. She was only slightly startled, a level of shock that was just enough for her to throw herself into his arms, seeking his protection. Midlife Temptation is an interpretation of the survival and psychological states of the middle-aged group in contemporary society. The author, Yu Xingya, works at the Planning Bureau of Tieling City and has reached the age of wisdom. His literary dream began in his youth, and he has published works such as essays, poems, and miscellaneous writings. Midlife Temptation is his first full-length novel, a crystallization of four years of his hard work. After submitting the thick manuscript to the Chunfeng Literature and Art Publishing House, the editor quickly discovered a "pearl" in the unsolicited submissions, saying it was rare to find such a great manuscript among the natural submissions. Yu Xingya's full-length novel was published normally through the unsolicited submission method, offering a valuable lesson for those who love literature but have had to self-finance their publications: as long as you write a good work, a good work will always find a good home.
At middle age, facing financial hardship and a bleak career path, the petty official Liang Mengyi, who desires much, enters the story. The narrative then follows his accidental discovery of a windfall, which marks the beginning of a "happy" life satisfying his desires. Initially, he frequents brothels, then bribes his superiors to secure a minor position. The novel portrays Liang Mengyi's mindset and actions upon receiving this sudden fortune, highlighting his yearning for and helplessness in the face of money under survival pressure, as well as the distortion of his soul and the loss of traditional morality under the influence of sexual temptation and other negative phenomena. While sketching the downward trajectory of the petty official's moral decline, the work also poses a critical inquiry into the quality of the broader social environment, delving into the personal and societal reasons that led to Liang Mengyi's transformation.
