Features: My father passed away early, and my mother remarried. My "childhood" was spent with my grandmother and grandfather. My grandmother told me many fairy tales every day and taught me to read and write. My dream was to become a military officer with a light-colored beard, so I studied very hard. I was naughty as a child and once glued rubber on the chairs where my stepfather and his mother sat, sticking them to the chairs! My stepfather treated my mother badly, often beating and scolding her, and I vowed to be destroyed with him. Later, my mother died, and I bid farewell to my "childhood" and entered "the human world." I worked as an apprentice in a shoe store and an icon workshop, a dishwasher on a ship, and a helper in my uncle's home who worked as a draftsman. However, my thirst for knowledge made me determined to change my fate. I wanted to rely on knowledge to find a path suitable for myself. "Childhood," "In the World," and "My University" together form an autobiographical trilogy of novels. Maxim Gorky, the author, was a Soviet writer and the founder of socialist realism literature. He came from a poor background, which greatly influenced his thoughts and creations. In 1901, he wrote the prose poem "The Song of the Sea Gull," and in 1906, he wrote two important works, the novel "Mother" and the play "Enemies," which brought his creative career to a new peak. The "Illustrated Phonetic Edition of World Literature Classics" launched this time is a series of books carefully compiled and illustrated, specially dedicated to young readers. Its form of combining pictures and text, along with standard phonetic annotations that meet primary school teaching standards, can fully meet the reading needs of primary school students.
