Features: "Cool Donkey Series" is a set of "self-guided travel books" recently launched by Guangdong Tourism Press, a gift to travel enthusiasts—backpackers and avid travelers. In summer, if the wind moves the grasslands, if the girl swings her long whip, if the deep-toned horse-head fiddle endlessly mourns the black steed, please take me back to the grasslands, to see the lonely smoke rising from the desert and the round sunset over the long river. The authors of the "Cool Donkey" series are self-guided travelers who love life and environmental protection—Namu Co and Free Feeling, the authors of "Tibet Travel Guide" and "Xinjiang Travel Guide," were once environmental volunteers for the Green River Foundation in Kekexili. In autumn 2003, the two authors visited a group of Green River volunteers who silently devoted themselves to under harsh conditions, moved by their perseverance and dedication. To encourage and support the still-fragile grassroots environmental movement, Guangdong Tourism Press and the authors proposed the "Buy a Useful Book, Plant a Tree of Life" charity sale under the dual identity of backpackers and environmental volunteers.

The way we face travel determines the direction of information in this series, the nature of its content, and the style of the books. Tourist activities like sightseeing without depth (ostentatious luxury travel), reckless destruction of nature (environmentally unconscious), indifferent sightseeing (without exploration, just seeking to "see once"), and following the crowd (having no unique emotional connection to travel) are not true travel and are consciously rejected by us. The self-guided travel philosophy we advocate is: authentic, simple, straightforward, and seeking a sense of atmosphere. Our goal is to convey a more down-to-earth way—walking close to the earth rather than back-and-forth flights or hailing taxis—and a more progressive travel concept—traveling for freedom.
Travel far and wide to know the local customs; explore the depths to understand the culture; tread through hardships to realize the spirit.
Our pursuit is: beyond the distance, higher than the height.
